2nd International Conference on High Manganese Steels (2nd HMnS)
At the “HMnS2014” the topic of High Manganese Steels was again in the focus of an International Conference. After the successful first meeting in Seoul 2011, the 2nd International Conference took place from 31 August to 4 September 2014 in the SuperC-Building at RWTH Aachen University, Germany. With 200 participants from 29 countries all over the world the meeting gave a frame for scientific exchange of worldwide activities in the field of steel research. In 10 sessions with 120 contributions the latest research results and future trends in materials design, modelling and simulation, processing, hydrogen embrittlement and other topics were discussed from scientists as well as from the industrial point of view.
Besides the presentations the laboratory tours at MPIE (Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung) in Düsseldorf and the guided tour at ER-C (Ernst Ruska-Center for Microscopy and Spectroscopy with Electrons) gave the possibility to visit research facilities standing in close co-operation with the SFB 761 (collaborative research center 761 “steel – ab initio”). The HMnS2014 was completed with a convivial conference dinner during an evening boat trip on the river Rhine in Düsseldorf.
The next HMnS in 2016 will be organized by CISRI (Central Iron and Steel Institute) und CSM (Chinese Society of Materials) with Prof. Han Dong chairing the Conference.
